Man calls cops to report missing inventory — that he stole

Perhaps you could consider it a crime of opportunity.

After all, he didn’t have to go far to swipe some swag — it was no more distant than his own inventory, under his employer’s roof.

But what makes someone like that think they’re never going to be caught?

Louisiana law enforcement types arrested a man who manages an appliance part store. He was charged with stealing more than $200,000 worth of inventory.

He had a comfortable seat while he was at it — right behind the store’s counter.

It began to unravel in January, when the manager reported that 70-foot rolls of 50-foot copper sheets were missing. (How could you fit those in your car, anyway?)

Subsequent investigation showed that the very same manager had been coming and going after hours, using his own security code to access the store.

The manager ‘fessed up, saying he’d sold the goods and made around $50,000.

The news report didn’t say if his employer fired him or not.

What do you think?
