Is that a pigeon in your pants, or … ?

Somewhere in Australia, there’s a disappointed bird fan who won’t get a special delivery shipment.

That’s because an Australian man was recently nabbed by Customs on his way back from the Middle East — with two live pigeons stuffed in his pants.

The plucky birds were wrapped in padded envelopes and held snug against his legs by a pair of tights.

The country’s Quarantine Service wouldn’t comment on the ongoing investigation, beyond the basics.

This is pretty serious business for the Aussies. They closely monitor incoming shipments (and people) to protect the integrity of native plants and species.

The smuggler faces up to 10 years in the pokey and a fine of up to $70,000.

The haul by Customers also included:

  • two eggs, stashed in a vitamin container in his luggage
  • seeds hidden in a money belt, and
  • “an undeclared eggplant.”

If he had declared the eggplant, do you think he would’ve been OK?
